Are Estate Sales Ever Gross?

Yes—And Here’s Why We’re Still Proud to Do Them

We were recently asked a very honest question:
“Are some of the estate sales you handle… gross?”

The short answer? Yes. Sometimes they are.
But there’s a longer—and more important—story behind that answer.

The Reality Behind the Scenes

At Ogden Layton Estate Sales, we specialize in helping families through major transitions. That often means working with homes that haven’t been touched in years. We’ve handled:

  • Homes filled wall-to-wall with collectibles or clutter

  • Properties where hoarding has occurred

  • Estates affected by drug use or meth contamination

  • Situations where families are too overwhelmed to know where to begin

These aren’t glamorous jobs—but they are necessary ones. And we take pride in the fact that families trust us to step in when things feel too difficult to manage alone.

We Offer More Than Just Estate Sales

In situations where a traditional estate sale doesn’t make sense, we offer a clean-out-only service. This allows us to help families clear out a home without the need for pricing and staging. Sometimes it’s about restoring dignity to a space before anything else can happen.

While we don’t currently offer biohazard cleanup services, we’re actively working toward expanding in that direction. Until then, we maintain strong partnerships with professionals who can assist when those needs arise.

Why This Work Matters

Messy homes often carry deep emotional stories—loss, isolation, health decline, or even just years of living. We never judge. Our role is to bring order, peace, and relief to people going through one of life’s hardest moments.

If you or someone you know needs help managing a difficult estate, reach out. Whether it’s clutter, collectibles, or something more complex—we’ve seen it, handled it, and helped families move forward with compassion and discretion.
